Staff and students at Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College at Leongatha celebrated the Blessing and official opening of their new state of the art Senior School which has created vibrant and spacious learning spaces for students to flourish.

Parish Priest, Father Stanly Devasia, was joined by Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Mr Paul Velten, Principal Mr John Freeman, along with invited guests and friends of the school and the local community.

The ceremony was to bless and officially open the new Senior School building which has created ten new general learning areas, staff and student amenities.

The removal of portable buildings paved the way for a new purpose-built senior school to be constructed. The facility has extended learning opportunities for senior students undertaking VCE, VET and Applied Learning. Year 9 and 10 students have moved into the former senior wing.

Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College Principal, Mr John Freeman said the new Senior School building and landscaping had enhanced staff and student wellbeing.

“The priority when planning the internal spaces was to provide light filled, flexible learning areas that can be adapted to suit a range of teaching and learning. Floor to ceiling windows allow natural lighting and beautiful views with learning spaces that encourage movement and collaboration.”

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Mr Paul Velten, said the new facilities represented Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited’s (DOSCEL) ongoing commitment to providing high quality learning and teaching environments and investment in school communities.

“It is wonderful to see the way staff and students are flourishing in the new Senior School.”

“This new facility forms part of a Masterplan to meet the needs of the growing school community now and into the future.”

“May this new facility continue to inspire faith and inspire learning and empower students to reach their full potential and make a positive impact on the world.”

The Senior School building project was partly funded by a Catholic Development Fund (CDF) loan and a grant from the Australian Government Capital Grant Program.
