Felix’s interest in different places and educational settings dates back to the diversity of his own experiences as a student: he attended two Catholic primary schools in regional Victoria, followed by a Catholic boys college in Melbourne, a high school in Canada, a grammar school in the UK and a secondary school in Queensland. He pursued his passion for languages by completing tertiary studies in French and Italian and qualifying as a language teacher.

In Victoria Felix has worked in State, Independent and Catholic schools and has taught Italian language and literature in the tertiary sector. He also spent three years in Milan, where he was employed by a Catholic foundation to deliver the English language component of tertiary IT courses. Felix is an active researcher whose publications range from academic topics such as spatial constructs in post-war Italian literature to action research on listening comprehension in the classroom. He has presented at conferences in Italy, the Netherlands, Singapore and Australia.

Felix has contributed to the development of curriculum and assessment in languages by writing Australian Language Competence Tests in Italian for ACER. He participated in the writing of the Australian Curriculum (Italian) by piloting courses and reviewing curriculum documentation for ACARA. As a leader of a network of Italian teachers in the Melbourne diocese for six years, he has promoted ongoing discussion and implementation of many new initiatives in language learning and teaching.

In his current role, Felix aims to continue this work by supporting language programs in the primary and secondary schools of the Diocese of Sale.
