Alice Youlden has been a dedicated educationalist for over 35 years. She has taught all primary grade levels as well as specialist teacher of music, drama and movement. Her love of music together with her belief that all children should be given the opportunity to experience and develop their talents in this area led to involvement in musical productions, liturgical music and as a conductor of primary, secondary and local children’s choirs. Alice worked for many years in Melbourne for the Victorian Education Department before moving interstate where she worked in independent and Catholic schools.
The experience of teaching in Catholic schools interstate prompted a conscious decision to seek employment in Catholic schools on her return to Victoria. She was drawn to the holistic nature of Catholic education centred on the person and mission of Jesus Christ, not only because of her personal faith, but because of the unique opportunity that Catholic education provides to synthesise faith, culture and life. Maintaining, enhancing and promoting the Catholic identity of the school are integral to Alice’s role as Education Officer: Religious Education. Her work focuses on supporting teachers in order to enhance student learning in Religious Education through the implementation of the Religious Education curriculum, Journeying Together in Hope, with particular interest in the teaching of Scripture.
