  • Elizabeth Hunt Teaching Scholarship

    Miss Elizabeth Hunt was a teacher at St Patrick’s School Pakenham from 1905 until 1934 when the Presentation Sisters established a convent. She was a legend among teachers in the Pakenham area, being much loved and respected.

    On 26 March 1939, a beautiful chapel was erected at the convent in memory of Miss Hunt. The Foundation stone reads 26th March 1939, blessed by Archbishop Daniel Mannix to the memory of Miss Elizabeth Hunt for many years a faithful teacher at St Patrick’s School. 

    This Scholarship is a grant to support students undertaking a Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor of Teaching at ACU National. Scholarship recipients receive $1,500 per year for the four years of their course. Two scholarships are offered each year.

    The Scholarship commemorates the life and work of Miss Elizabeth Hunt, a much loved and respected teacher at St Patrick’s School, Pakenham, from 1905 until 1934.

    What is the Scholarship?

    The Scholarship is a grant to support students who are undertaking a Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor of Teaching at ACU National, Melbourne or Ballarat. Scholarship recipients receive $1,500 per year for the four years of their course.  Two scholarships are offered each year.

    What obligations are there?

    It is expected that Elizabeth Hunt Scholarship holders will teach for at least three years in a Catholic school in the Diocese of Sale.

    Scholarship holders are also expected to contribute to the life of ACU National and pursue their studies and teaching experiences with enthusiasm and effort of the highest order.

    Elizabeth Hunt Scholarship holders contribute to the Diocese of Sale in other ways:

    • They make themselves available to speak to Year 11 and 12 students in our seven colleges about teaching at ACU (third and fourth year).
    • They form a special group of support to other scholarship holders at ACU (4th year).
    • They participate in the Scholarship interviews at the end of their fourth year.
