About the School

StPatrickSt Patrick's Primary School is a Catholic primary school located in Pakenham towards the western end of the Diocese of Sale, just 45 minutes from Melbourne.

Catholic education has a long history in the area, beginning in the 1850s, with records showing a school in the area headed by Daniel Ahern from Dublin. The school closed for a time, then reopened in 1888. It has remained open since.

Today, as it did all those years ago, St Patrick’s Primary School provides a safe, inclusive, educational environment dedicated to nurturing complete young people, who we hope will grow into great citizens.

We believe that:

  • Children learn best when they are happy - when the learning is relevant to their lives and to their stage of development and readiness.
  • Children learn when there are good relationships among those involved in the learning process.
  • The exploratory and informal elements of learning are very important.
  • Learning involves risk-taking and errors are seen as healthy steps toward skill acquisition and growth.
  • Each young person, through a belief in themselves, in others and in a loving God, must be encouraged to strive for excellence and to have hope for the future.
  • Children must learn to accept responsibility for their own actions and behaviour.
