About the School

Andrew McDermott

St James Catholic School was established in 1975.It is situated in the country town of Nar Nar Goon, located 65km from Melbourne. Nar Nar Goon enjoys the advantage of being close to the urban growth corridor while still enjoying the positive communal aspects that country town life can bring.

St James is a modern, well equipped school situated on 5 acres overlooking the township.  The complex consists of learning areas, library, art room, administration area and multipurpose hall.  Classrooms in the school reflect modern learning and teaching practice aided by interactive whiteboards and computers. The school is well resourced to provide books, tools and materials for a positive student education. The importance of learning is evident with children’s experiences and knowledge displayed throughout the school.

The rural nature of the school is reflected in the large, well-shaded play areas that promote both adventure and creative play and team games. The grounds also include two adventure playgrounds, an oval, netball/basketball courts and two undercover areas. The school chooks add to the rural feel of St James, with students taking responsibility for their care and egg collection.

St James School is very community orientated with families enjoying many school events and social times together. The social nature of the community ensures students feel connected to their learning environment.
