About the School

St. Michael's is a small Catholic primary school located in East Gippsland forty kilometres north east of Traralgon. St. Michael's enrols students from Heyfield and surrounding districts. Its current enrolment is over seventy students.

St. Michael's Primary School was established in 1954 by the Sisters of St. Joseph and is now led by lay teachers under its Principal, Mr.Damian Hogan. St. Michael's maintains a strong commitment to the core values of the Josephite Order of Truth, Faith, Hope and Love.

St. Michael's Primary School is committed to being a vibrant learning centre and a school for the 21st Century.  It has welcomed funding opportunities to allow relevant capital works to facilitate its educational purpose.

Building works have already commenced, with an extension and refurbishment planned for the existing multipurpose room. This new and enlarged area will become an Arts space which will include space for the performing arts, music classes and a wet area for art classes.

The library is also undergoing major refurbishment. Renovations will include the addition of an information technology centre off the main section of the library. This centre will incorporate stand alone computers as well as laptops, allowing individual access to computers for every student in a class. It is also envisaged that our technology centre will become the hub for students to develop their skills and knowledge through various multimedia projects such as video conferencing with students around the world, electronics, animation and robotics.

Every classroom will be refurbished to make them more student-centred and user friendly. This will include an interactive whiteboard in each room, a great tool for enhancing student' engagement and motivation towards their learning.

At St. Michael’s Primary School we take seriously our responsibility for the wellbeing of students and staff with an effective pastoral care system.

Our parent community is actively involved in a variety of school activities thus promoting a warm, caring and friendly environment.
