About the School

In 1971, Hazelwood Power Station was completed. To cater for the influx of workers at this large new power station, the township of Churchill was formed in 1965. In 1976, Morwell Parish received a building grant to commence construction of a Catholic primary school in Churchill. The school, Lumen Christi Primary School was officially opened in 1978 by Bishop of Sale, Bishop Fox.

At Lumen Christi Primary School we are committed to the vision and mission of Jesus Christ, providing a welcoming, caring, safe environment, where all have the opportunity and are encouraged to learn and grow to their full potential.

We care about the well being of all members of the school community and the environment. We strive to be stewards of the earth, endeavouring to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Our school has chickens, a worm farm, fruit and indigenous trees and vegetable gardens, whose produce we use in our canteen.

At Lumen Christi Primary School we have several specialist programs including music, specialist sport programs and a buddies program. Each year we hold a fete. We also conduct fortnightly playgroup and a monthly story time for preschoolers.

We are proudly a ‘KidsMatter School’, one of 100 participating schools in Australia. KidsMatter is a national mental health promotion and early intervention initiative aimed at primary aged students.

Lumen Christi Primary School recognises the importance of students’ mental health to their learning and wellbeing.  Through creating a positive school environment and providing education on social and emotional skills for life, we address the needs of our students.

We have a School Chaplain who works with our families and the wider community.

We are very proud of our 2009 girls soccer team which was ranked in the top eight teams in the State of Victoria.
