New start for staff and students

3 February, 2020

St John the Baptist Primary School in Koo Wee Rup was alive with laughter and conversation on the first day of school, as 46 new students joined the school community.

Newly appointed principal, Mr Chris Dortmans, said he was pleased to see the school become a hive of activity again after the summer break.

“The St John’s school community is close to my heart and I look forward to collaborating with staff, students and families to ensure our school remains a positive, faith-filled learning environment where our students can thrive,” he said.

Before stepping into his new leadership role, Mr Dortmans was the school’s deputy principal and religious education leader.

Ms Maria Kirkwood, the Director of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Sale, said Mr Dortmans’ experience as an educational leader would benefit the whole school.

“I am confident he will continue to guide students to achieve their best while drawing on the life-giving traditions and spirituality of the Catholic faith,” she said.

St John’s has also introduced a tenth class this year. This is to accommodate the school’s growing number of students and to ensure small class sizes are maintained. The school now has an enrolment of 215 students in Foundation through to Year 6.
