Lakes school building project to commence

30 January, 2020

St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School will start the new year on a positive note, as work begins on a major project to construct new classrooms.

Bairnsdale-based builders CM and HM Banks will complete the works, adding four additional learning areas, a specialist classroom, covered walkway and a new hardcourt while also refurbishing some existing rooms.

Principal of St Brendan’s, Mr Matthew Hamer, said that he was very excited about the project.

“Weather permitting, we hope to be in the new building by the start of Term 4 this year. It’s going to be a fantastic addition to our school,” he said.

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Ms Maria Kirkwood, said that it was wonderful to see the project going ahead, now that the threat of bushfire had eased.

“The wellbeing of our students and staff is our highest priority. By creating modern, engaging learning areas for students and upgrading the facilities for staff, St Brendan’s is promoting excellence in a safe and welcoming environment,” she said.

There are 262 students enrolled at the school.

Crosier Scott Architects designed the new building including the associated works. Funding assistance of $1 million for this $3 million project has been provided under the Victorian Government Capital Funding Program through Catholic Capital Grants (Vic) Ltd.
