Cowes school receives funding for new facilities

24 January, 2020

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School has received a $3.295 million grant from the Victorian Government to complete the next stage of construction at the new school.

The build will include four general learning areas, a library, two break out rooms and an undercover basketball court. The existing car park will also be extended and extra landscaping added.
Ms Maria Kirkwood, the Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, said it is wonderful to see Catholic education flourishing on Philip Island.

“In just two years, the school has developed a safe and nurturing environment for students and families, filled with hope and supported by high expectations,” she said.

The school’s Principal, Mrs Catherine Blackford, said the school’s state-of-the-art facilities help teaching and support staff create a Christ-centred community focussed on quality learning and teaching.
“Our numbers have grown from 16 at the beginning of 2018 to 67 at the end of 2019. When we’re at full capacity we will be able to cater for 150-180 students.

“We hope to welcome more bright young students into our community in the coming years as we continue to dedicate ourselves to the development of the whole child through faith, collaboration and culture,” she said.

Construction is expected to start in Term 2, 2020.
