New opportunities for growth at St Mary's

22 October, 2019

Staff and students at St Mary’s Primary School in Yarram will start the 2020 school year with a new principal, Mr Joel Brayshaw.

Mr Brayshaw is currently the deputy principal at St Michael’s Primary School in Traralgon. Earlier this year, he graduated with a Master of Clinical Teaching from the University of Melbourne.

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Ms Maria Kirkwood, said Mr Brayshaw is one of many educators in the Diocese of Sale to take on learning and development opportunities.

“The educators in each of our schools have demonstrated a love of lifelong learning and have adopted expert teaching practices to improve learning outcomes for students.

“Mr Brayshaw was an obvious choice for helping the children at St Mary’s develop their Catholic faith in an engaging learning environment,” Ms Kirkwood said.

Current principal, Mr Brendan Maher said the change in school leadership is bitter sweet for him, as he will be sad to say goodbye to the St Mary’s community, but is happy to see such an enthusiastic educator take the helm.

“The appointment of a new school principal is exciting as it brings with it new opportunities for learning and growth. I have no doubt Mr Brayshaw will lead our terrific school community in 2020 and beyond, with the support, insight and experience the wonderful team at St Mary’s will provide,” Mr Maher said.

According to Mr Brayshaw, being given the opportunity to lead St Mary’s into the future is his greatest professional achievement so far.

“I always strive to be a positive influence in the lives of my students and look forward to making a huge impact at the school. I hope to see all students achieve their personal best while drawing on the life-giving traditions and spirituality of the Catholic faith” he said.
