A Day of Dialogue

15 September, 2015

This week a representative group of Catholic College Sale Year 10 and 11 students were engaged in a life changing conference.

‘A Day of Dialogue’ is a free-speech initiative that creates a safe environment for students to exercise their religious freedoms and express their religious beliefs in a safe and respectful manner. The project was the initiative of the Combined Sion Schools Committee, who meets throughout the year to ensure the charism of the Sion Sisters is kept alive. Interfaith dialogue is an important aspect of the Sion charism.

Our students joined with students from the Catholic College, Our Lady of Sion College Box Hill, the Jewish College, Mount Scopus College Burwood, the Catholic College, Marist Sion College Warragul and the Islamic College, Ilem College Dallas.

The day was an opportunity for students from different faith backgrounds to come together and to discuss their faith. It provided an opportunity for students to meet and talk informally on a range of topics in small groups.

Catholic College Sale Deputy Principal, Mr Peter Centra was part of the discussions on the day and was very impressed with the gathering. “All the fifty students interacted very well and learned about each other and their school backgrounds.” Mr Centra mused. “I couldn’t help but wonder if some of our world leaders were present on the day, they would have learnt a lot about friendship, accepting and respecting differences and appreciating each other as equals.”

At the conclusion of the day all of the students were reluctant to leave, having made friends and connections.
